Spring of 2008 Baseball Academy

Our Spring Baseball Academy

Golden Era's Spring Baseball Academy is a comprehensive in-season player development program set to begin on Sunday, March 2nd. The goal is to take every player from where they're currently at as a player and do our best to help them excel even further.

Our Spring Baseball Academy is a perfect addition to any player’s baseball season. With all training sessions being conveniently scheduled & taking place on Sundays, it also doesn't interfere with most players’ team seasons.

We welcome anyone to come on out and start getting ready to preform!

Golden Era Baseball is pleased to bring you our Spring of 2008 Baseball Academy. Beginning in 2008 Golden Era's Spring Baseball Academy will be held at 2 different locations, Dublin as well as in Antioch.

Instruction for our Spring Baseball Academy will begin to cover every aspect of the game of baseball. In detail everything from base running, infield, outfield, catching, pitching, and hitting will be covered from the fundamentals on up.

Our Spring Academy is available to any player age 7 thru 14 years old.
Players will be divided by age into one of the following groups:

  • 7- 8 year olds
  • 9- 10 year olds
  • 11 and 12 year olds
  • 13 and 14 year olds

Lead Instruction for the Golden Era Spring Baseball Academy will be given by Derek Bell and Mike Sa, along with special guest instructors coming by to some of the workouts to take our level of instruction even further.

Enrollment will be extremely limited and space will be given on a first come first serve basics. Registration for our Spring of 2008 Baseball Academy has begun. Below is a brief outline of some of the aspects of baseball that will be covered and developed within our Spring of 2008 Baseball Academy.

Infield Play:

  • Proper Infield Ready Position
  • Proper Fielding Position
  • How to circle the ball and play thru it
  • How to follow the ball when you throw
  • Proper way to field a backhand ground ball
  • Proper way to field a slow roller (Slow Rollers Drill)
  • Do or Dies (Bare hands)
  • Double Play Turns
  • Jump Throws
  • How to take a steal throw & selling the tag
  • Proper way to receive a cut-off throw
  • Proper footwork on a relay throw
  • Proper way to go back on a pop-up

Hitting:

Throughout our Spring Baseball Academy we will cover all the building blocks to start helping young players turn into a better and more complete hitter. Depending on Players Age, some of the below may not be covered.

  • Hitting Set-up Position
  • Balance
  • Solid Contact Points
  • All the check points of being solid at contact

Tees

  • Proper way to use a batting tee
  • Staying Solid at contact point
  • Keeping your hands inside the ball
  • Approach paths for the inside pitch
  • Approach path for the pitch down the middle
  • Approach path for the outside pitch

Keeping Your Hands Inside the Ball

  • Proper way to keep your hands inside the ball
  • Prevents rolling over and hooking pitches

Approaches to Hitting

  • What to look for on the 1st pitch of an at bat
  • What to look for ahead in the count
  • Power hitting
  • 2 strike hitting
  • Count situations
  • Going to the plate with a plan (Hitting Plans)

Mental State of Hitting

  • When can we start preparing to hit
  • How to study a pitcher
  • On deck circle
  • How to learn from the previous at bat
  • Knowing the umpire
  • How to handle failure
  • Positive Visualization (thinking)

Situational Hitting

  • How to use the whole field
  • Go over game situations
  • Go over when to hit a ball on the ground

Bunting

  • How to do a Spin Throw
  • Do or Die Ground Balls and Throws
  • Communication
  • How to take a proper angle on the ball
  • How to play the wall (Fence Drill)
  • Proper way to catch a ball hit into the sun (Sun Drill)
  • Hitting the cut-off man

How to prepare as an outfielder before and during the game. (Situations)

  • Is the outfield grass fast or slow?
  • Are there bullpens a player would have to contend with?
  • How hard is the wind blowing?
  • Where is the sun?
  • How does the ball come of the fence?

Base-Running:

  • How to round 1st base on a hit to the outfield
  • How to run hard thru 1st base on a ground ball in the infield
  • How to tag up on a fly ball

The following will be covered and taught to players whether there league rules allow it or not:

  • How to get a lead at 1st base off a right handed pitcher
  • How to get a lead at 1st off a left handed pitcher
  • How to do a secondary lead
  • How to get a lead at 2nd base
  • How to get a lead at 3rd base
  • How to explode on a steal start

Pitching:

Our Spring Baseball Academy is not a Pitching Class where 100% of the time is dedicated to just pitching. The focus within this program is to teach young players the basic proper fundamentals and techniques to begin to put any young pitcher in a position to start excelling.

Fundamentals of Pitching:

  • Proper Pitching Warm-Up
  • Grips (To Teach & Show Different Grips)
  • 4 seem fastball grip
  • 2 seems fastball grip
  • Change-up Grip

Catching:

  • Receiving
  • Framing
  • Blocking
  • Foot Work on Steals
  • Pop-ups
  • Fielding the position (Balls in front of the plate)
  • Throwing to 2nd on steals
  • Throwing to 3rd on steals
  • How to give signs

Players Checklist
  1. Wear baseball attire, baseball pants or sweats
  2. Be sure to bring your cleats and a hat
  3. Make sure you have your glove and bat
  4. Bring a water or Gatorade

We recommend that all players have there name or initials on all personal items such as your bat, glove and drink.

The Spring of 08' Baseball Academy is set to begin on Sunday March 2nd. All parents please bring your player by 15 minutes early to turn in all the appropriate registration paperwork. All paperwork will be sent out via email once registering online for the program.
