Justin Riche, 16U Assistant Coach

Coach Riche comes to the Golden Era staff after playing the last 2 seasons for Derek Bell. Justin was a top local player while playing high school ball at Bishop O'Dowd. After a solid senior high school season, Justin received a scholarship to play baseball at Biola University, where he played his freshmen year before hangin em' up due to a shoulder injury.

Coach Riche is entering into his first season coaching, Derek say's "With Justin's passion and knowledge for the game, if he chooses to he could end up being a very, very good coach. Justin comes from a baseball background and knows the game inside and out, his dad was the Oakland A's bullpen catcher and batting practice pitcher for 9 years, baseball is in his blood. In my opinion he's already the top young coach in the area and the sky is the limit for his abilities".

From Chabot, Steve received a scholarship to play baseball at William and Penn University in Iowa, where he graduated in 2000 with a degree in Sociology.

Coach Peters began his coaching career as Laney College's Pitching Coach. After a stint at Laney, Steve coached at Arroyo high school and now as came full circle, back to where he began at San Lorenzo, where he teaches Physical Education and is their Varsity Baseball Coach.

Coach Peters is a true teacher of the game and has something that can't be taught, and that's the ability to relate and communicate with all of the young players of today.

Derek Bell, Lead Program Coach

In January of 2005, Derek started Golden Era Baseball to pass on some of what he had learned playing and coaching the game of baseball to the young players of today. Derek comes from the unique background of seeing and being part of almost everything baseball can bring you.

In his 4 years of playing college baseball, Derek was an outfielder and a pitcher. At one time or another though he experienced the joy of playing and learning every position on the field, except for catcher, while playing at the 4 year college level. Derek has also experienced the low baseball can bring at times, having had career ending shoulder surgery resulting from completely tearing his labrum.

Derek formed Golden Era's Club Teams in an effort to give players the opportunity to compete in not only high profile, top talented tournaments... but also to teach the game of baseball and to allow players to be part of the life classroom being part of a team and out on a baseball field can create. Derek say's in his opinion, "baseball is always more than baseball, the game itself will always be more important than exposure, baseball will always be more than what you think it is".

Derek attended the University of Redlands, where he graduated in 1999 with a B.S. in Business. While playing baseball at University of Redlands, Derek set the school Homerun, RBI and Run Scored records at the time of his graduation, while also being named Conference Player of the Year, Team MVP, as well as receiving All-American honors.

Coach Bell began coaching at Colby College in the Jayhawk West Conference in Kansas, where he worked with the hitters and outfields, while being part of the youngest college coaching staff in the country at the time.

After coaching in Kansas, Coach Bell returned to California in 2004, where we coached at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland. In 2005 Coach Bell was also asked to be part of the United States Goodwill Series coaching staff, by the founder of the Area Code Games, Bob Williams. Since the start of the Goodwill Series in 1983, 37% of our American team players have gone on to play in the Major Leagues.

While not coaching Golden Era's 18U team, Derek runs Golden Era Baseball.
